Th of these weapoe possibility of rogue
nations or terrorist groups obtaining Weapons
of Mass Destruction has dominated the news in
recent years. The IAEA conducts inspections
of nations suspected of harboring WMDs, and
the United States is in the midst of a war
sold to the public as a preemptive action to
prevent a possible WMD attack. The possibility
of the existencens has created
a volatile political climate in this century.
Now imagine that an undersea cache of
high-tech WMDs mysteriously appears from the
past, in the possession of a submarine crew
still fighting a war that ended over
half-century ago. In his compelling sci-fi
thriller, U-1706, author
Rene Egle has created just such a scenario.
The suspense builds as those who know of the
German U-boat’s presence race to avert the
threat of an international incident of
gargantuan proportions. |

High in the mountains of the Black Forest in
Germany at the Freiberg Institute, two young
scientists make a revolutionary breakthrough
during a routine experiment. Instead of a test
cube, they transport an entire submarine from
the past to the future.
Stranded in the 21st
century, U-1706 with all its crew is soon
sighted in Southeast Asia, drawing the
attention of American Intelligence. The two
German scientists must race U.S. operatives to
find the boat and make contact, to prevent the
worst. |
